About Stamford

A soft rolling countryside of stone walled fields and stone villages, laced with delecate rivers, surround Stamford.

Kings Cliffe is an ancient stone village which is still thriving today with many small businesses, boasting a post office, baker, green grocer, a lively pub, an art gallery and several design studios.

Set against this beautiful background are some of the finest Great Houses in the country. The crowning glory is of course Burghley House on the outskirts of Stamford which is 8 miles away.

Within a radius of ten miles there are 12 historic sites that may be of interest to you. The most magnificent of these is Burghley House (Horse Trials), Rockingham Castle, Kirby Hall, Deene Park, and Elton Hall. In addition, there are the beautiful stone towns of Stamford and Oundle.

For those not interested in things historical, there is Rockingham Motor Speedway, Rutland Water, (Watersports, Cycling, Birdwatching, Fishing). For the film and steam fanatics among you there is the magical Nene Valley Railway that features highly in many popular films of the last ten years.

For the more literary minded there is the amazing spectacle of Shakespeare's plays being performed live in the open air. Tolthorpe Open Air Theatre hosts these magical performances every summer.
